Abstract: This thesis discussed how legislative institutions that are used to oversee the production, exploitation and management of the Oil and Gas as a natural resource affects the economic growth of Uganda. The thesis essentially examined the governance practices in the exploitation of the Oil and Gas resource in Uganda and considered what the likely impact on Uganda’s economic growth would be. The thesis tried to interrogate the effectiveness and ability of Uganda’s institutions in managing the Oil and Gas sector and how this governance impacted on the overarching goal of realizing sustainable development in Uganda. The thesis provided evidence to suggest that there was an attempt to embrace the principles of good resource management although not transparent and holistic enough. The thesis argued that although Uganda’s institutions are well intended and enshrined in different petroleum legislations, they still faced critical challenges that hinder effective management of the resource.
